Recoil Starter Spring for Honda

$11.50

This recoil starter spring plays a key role in manual start systems, also known as pull or rewind starts. You’ll typically find these systems on small engines like the Honda GX120, GX140, GX160, and GX200. These engines commonly power equipment such as compactors, generators, brick saws, and mixers.

The spring’s main job is to pull the starter cord back into the housing after each use. If the cord no longer retracts, it’s likely time to replace the spring. Doing so will restore proper function and save you from frustrating delays.

Because it’s a small part, many people overlook it—yet it’s essential for reliable engine starts. Fortunately, installing a replacement spring is quick and cost-effective.

When would you replace a pull start spring?

There are a number of things that can cause the recoil starter to fail.

  • The tension spring can move out of position within the casing and just needs to be realigned.
  • The tension spring can break.
  • The casing holding the spring can break.

How to fix a pull start spring?

The simplest way to fix your recoil starter in all of these situations is to buy a complete starter recoil assembly and just replace the whole part. But if you are a bit more experienced, then you can take the starter recoil assembly apart and fix the spring. Just beware, they can be a bit tricky!
